The 2016 Mitchell Lecture will be delivered by Lord Neuberger, President of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom.

David Neuberger, Baron Neuberger of Abbotsbury, was appointed President of the Supreme Court in 2012, becoming the second person to hold the office since the Court was established in 2009 to replace the Appellate Committee of the House of Lords. He was called to the Bar in 1974 and made Queen's Counsel in 1987. He became a Bencher for Lincoln's Inn in 1993. Lord Neuberger was appointed Recorder 1990-1996, after which he was appointed a High Court judge in the Chancery Division. He was then the Supervisory Chancery Judge for the Midland, Wales and Chester and Western Circuits 2000-2004. In 2004, he was appointed a Lord Justice of Appeal, and in 2007, he was made a Lord of Appeal in Ordinary. He was Master of the Rolls from 2009 to 2012.

Background: The Mitchell Lecture is an annual European law lecture hosted by the Edinburgh Europa Institute and named after its founder, Professor JDB Mitchell.
