Europa Institute Hosts European Court of Human Rights Judge

Institute hosts Judge Síofra O’Leary for its annual Mitchell Lecture on European law

The Edinburgh Europa Institute hosted Dr Síofra O’Leary, Judge at the European Court of Human Rights, elected in respect of Ireland, today for its annual Mitchell Lecture.

Judge O’Leary spoke to the title: A Tale of Two Cities: Fundamental Rights Protection in Strasbourg and Luxembourg, offering her reflections on the fundamental rights approaches of the two European courts.

The Europa Institite’s Mitchell Lecture is its annual European law lecture named after its founder, Professor JDB Mitchell.

The lecture was chaired by the Rt Hon Prof Sir David Edward, Edinburgh Europa Institute Chair and organised by Dr Tobias Lock, Edinburgh Europa Institute Co-Director.

Rt Hon Prof Sir David Edward KCMG QC FRSE, Europa Institute Chair, is Professor Emeritus of Law at the University of Edinburgh.

Dr Tobias Lock, Europa Institute Co-Director, is Senior Lecturer in European Union Law at the University of Edinburgh.
